Etoile Collection Update

Well, as promised, I rushed over to Neiman's after the gym to view the Shopper Etoile. The Bowler already got sold this morning. The first thing I noticed was that it looked so much like last year's Griet but this time, it is way lighter! The canvas that was used is thinner making the quilted pattern soft. It is lined with beige alcantara and like the Griet, it is divided into three compartments, the middle one being zippered. What struck me the most is the attention to detail. The buckle is hinged like a door and the engraved script 'Louis Vuitton' is very nicely done. It's a huge chunk of brass but doesn't feel heavy. The leather lip that closes the bag is not as thick as the Griet's and is only made up of one layer. The Griet has several, one on top of the other. The shoulder straps are held by rings and are thinnner. A leather belt fastens the bag close that is finished with beautiful hardware. Rounded rivets add luxurious elements throughout. All in all, it is a great bag but the price point is a bit much for something that is not limited. Shopper is $3500 and Bowler is $2950. I still LVoe it!!!

Mirage Exotics: Griet & Delft

After the Speedy Mirage, the Griet and Delft are my favorites from Vuitton's 2007 Fall Winter Collection. I guess LV is trying to revive their remaining stock because it came up on the website this season. The Griet being $9850 and the Delft $9100. Pretty pricey due to the exotic materials but ooooh so pretty. Visit www.louisvuitton.com.

Griet

I had the opportunity to take a sneak peak at the lookbook this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Mirage Griet would be released in Damier, Monogram and Black Multicolore. I can't wait for these lines to come out. I hope that they would be more affordable than the pictured exotique. Photo credit: www.louisvuitton.com

The Griet

The Griet came out with the patent leather trimmings that the Mirage line is elegantly known for. Miss Scarlett is über fabulous donning it in one of her ads. Needless to say, it was a bit pricey. I guess they wanted to come up with with a more affordable alternative and out comes these beauties. I would die with those vachettas because they are thick and it is quite necessary to touch them. LVoe it anyways. Prices: Mirage $3450; Monogram and Damier $1770; Multicolore $2030 Visit www.louisvuitton.com.

Palermo and Tivoli

Two days from now and these new additions will be released and scores of LV LVoers will be rushing to their stores to grab hold of one. I was in LV the other day and my LVoely SA showed me the new cruise line Speedy and the affordable alternative Griet with the regular vachetta. They didn't tempt me at all to put down my credit card but am sure they will get into the arms of fashionistas somehow. Prices: Palermo PM $970; GM $1170 Visit www.louisvuitton.com.

Weekend Trip to LV

I decided to enjoy the early part of the day with a much needed trip to Louis Vuitton. I have not seen the Boetie in person and a review is so much better when you do it from life. The bag is truly amazing as it is as light as a feather. Much different from its older cousin, the Griet. The worrisome part of it though for me is the vache leather that details it especially the bottom trims. There has been a suggestion that the current leather that LV uses is not at par with the older models wherein the vache turns to a golden patina. The patina is now blotchy and the leather at times scaly. But this topic is for another day. Let's go back to the Boetie. The new twist lock is pretty and easy to handle but the zippered closure could prove to be a challenge. I guess leaving it open as you carry it is an alternative. All in all, the Boetie is an excellent choice if you are looking for a Monogram Canvas piece that has a little bit more to offer in terms of design and style. I LVoe the new window of crates and packaging that LV has for this season to feature the Boetie and other pieces, of course. As for the pic above, I couldn't help but ask my associate to take a pic of me with the Spicy Sandal in Suede Baby Goat Leather . The shoe is a testimony to Italian craftsmanship. I do not know if they are comfy though but apparently they are flying off the shelves. The insock is lined with padded miniature Monogram Canvas and the heel itself is covered in leather. The beadwork is not distracting at all but makes the shoe truly unique. I must admit that I was tempted to buy it just to showcase in my home. This is one of my favourite shoe collections of Vuitton. LVoe it!!! PS. The friend who went with me to the boutique waitlisted for an upcoming bag. Can you guess who it is from the window display's reflection?

First LVook: Damier Sistina

The latest addition in the Damier Collection for its shoulder bags is the Sistina. Once again, acquiring the template of 2007's Griet, this extremely practical bag comes in GM, MM and PM. The largest having three compartments and all of them with adjustable straps. A new buckle is also being introduced with clean vertical lines that finishes off nicely the now signature Vuitton leather flap. Also, a very identifiable LV design is the pleating of the canvas which ads feminity to the piece. I have yet to see it in real life but so far I LVoe it!!! Currently only available in Damier canvas, it is priced at GM $2020, MM $1870, PM $1720. Visit www.louisvuitton.com.

Two for the Road

I guess some of you were wondering about why I posted a pic of Scarlett Johannson as The Girl With The Pearl Earring. Not only is it one of my favorite films, but I have decided to exchange my Epi Alma (due to quality issues) with the bag that Marc Jacobs has named in homage of Scarlett's character in the movie, Griet. I was meaning to surprise you all with my new purchase only to be surprised myself by a dear friend who went literally Mancrazy. Check out the photo. LVoe it!!!

The Matelassé from the Étoile Collection

Matelassé which means 'quilted' in French is the latest offering from Vuitton, belonging to the Étoile (star) Collection. The design of quilted bags is not new. It was made popular by Coco Chanel when she translated her beige, suede sofa from the 1930's into her classic flaps of the '50's. The material and color of the sofa, which can still be viewed in her private apartments to this day, were very unusual for that period and the pillows were quilted all over. Even then, she was ahead of her time. Marc Jacobs has now borrowed this innovation to offer, to what looks to me like a reinterpretation of the Montorgueil and Griet. The quilting pattern is so precise that a line cuts through the same flowers from top to bottom. Three intersecting lines meet at designated points to frame the LV monogram within which is never cut. Amazing! No wonder this collection has a high price tag to them. So much material would be wasted in making one bag. Also, let's not overlook the fabulous hardware that these bags are outfitted with. The 'Louis Vuitton' script crowns it perfectly! I can't wait to see these in real life! Comes in bowler $2950 and tote $3500. LVoe it!!! Photo: the book from Incircle NM

200th post -- The Mirage Line

I was fumbling on-line to search for any information regarding the impending release of the Mirage line. I found this wonderful photograph of what I assume is the backstage of a fashion show. Pictured is a Mirage Alma Voyage, Griet and a Sac plat as held by this extremely fortunate soul. I hope this illusion will become a reality soon. I can't wait for the Speedy's release! LVoe it!!!
