Monument for New Year's

I decided to take Jeff on an adventure the very first day of 2011. In the 10 years that I have lived in DC, I have never been inside the Washington Monument. Seeing all those obelisks in Egypt made me appreciate more the tallest stone structure and tallest obelisk IN THE WORLD. So despite the overcast day, we headed out to the National Mall. Standing at 555 feet 5⅛ inches the monument was built to honor the first U.S. President, General George Washington. In 1888, it was the tallest structure in the world, only to be replaced a year later by France's Tour de Eiffel. The views were breathtaking even though you peer through small windows. Can you imagine this on a bright, sunny day? I did not know this, but the top is capped by an aluminum tip that served as lightning rod. It was the largest single piece of aluminum cast at the time. I was truly in awe whilst inside the Washington Mounument. Since it was a day of firsts, (1st of the year, 1st time inside the WM) I decided to carry my very first Louis Vuitton, the Monogram Reporter. LVoe it!!! Happy New Year!!!
