The handles of the Speedy are crafted out of untreated calfskin. This means that there is no protectant or varnish and thus the leather tends to absorb anything that touches it. The darkening is from your hands' natural oils or even lotion as it picks up dirt. If too much dirt is on it, it may even turn black. When I have new leather, I hold onto them first with a handkerchief. In time the leather will patina to a golden brown and I don't need to do this anymore. Clean it only with a white eraser as this will rub off some of the upper layer of the leather. Some have use non-alcoholic baby wipes but I have not done that with mine. I think that LV bags are timeless like diamonds;-)you can use it for all your life and thay worth every euro that I spend on LV !I have realy big collection of LV I adore it!!! Your blog is GREAT I read it every day in Bosnia;-)))) Big kiss and thank ypu for grat bags!!!Bojana
