Blast from the Historical Past: The Steamer
A 1901 release, the soft-sided Steamer bag was originally intended to be a laundry bag for travellers to stuff their used linens. Made out of canvas and can be convieniently folded, it turned out to be one of their best sellers. It evolved into a carryall and is now a piece of luggage in its own right. Shown here is the original design with Gaston-Louis Vuitton's initial on one of them. (Photo from Paul-GĂ©rard Pasols' The Birth of Modern Luxury and Stephane Gershcel's Icons)
What interested me in featuring this piece of luggage is the new interpretation that Vuitton has created especially for Vernilover. Her Red Epi Steamer is to die for and is the epitome of luxury travel. It is a perfect fusion of an old design with the fresh, modern material of the Epi. Kudos Vernilover for requesting this special order. LVoe, LVoe, LVoe it and congratulations!!!
